Beagles are great pets to consider. The breed seems to have lived on the planet for about a thousand years by now or maybe longer. Earlier this small hound with a good sense of smell was used mainly in hunting. It is a well-known fact that the very name of the breed originated from a Celtic word "beag" which stands for "small." Since the size of the dog did not allow it to pursue big prey some people started to interpret the name of the breed as "of little value." Still, it did not prevent the breed from distribution all over the world. At the end of the 19th century, America got acquainted with the Beagle and now enjoys the reputation of a country with a great number of Beagle lovers. The American Kennel Club does its best to maintain the purity of the breed and help Beagles owners in raising their pets. Beagles Breeders - Grooming and Care

Overall, the Beagle is a healthy animal though there are some diseases characteristic to the breed such as epilepsy, dwarfism, thyroid abnormalities, etc. It can also experience eye and back problems. A sore point is its ears, which demand an owner's constant attention. Insects (licks, fleas, etc.) can attack an animal and be the cause of suffering. A decent breeder would always inform you of the types of the screens done to the father and mother. If they had some diseases you would have a clear-cut idea about health problems your pet is prone to since many diseases are transferred genetically. Make sure your pet is vaccinated in due time.
